Clean up your perennials from last year. Clip or trim off the leggy branches. Begonias are brittle and will snap easily, be careful not to break unintended branches. Clean out old leaves, snails, and winter debris.
Stir up the soil in the bare areas and add some potting soil to bring up the soil level to grade. Take a couple of new plants scratch up the roots and plant in the open area in the container.
Water your renewed container this will reduce shock to the plants from having their roots stirred up.

A great way to water your plants while you’re gone on vacation is to use the self watering containers that have a reservoir.
The reservoir container is a double walled flower pot that stores water in the sides or underneath of the plant depending on the design of the container.
The container has a wicking system that brings water from the reservoir into the soil around the plant for the correct amount of water as the plant needs it.
