Tools needed:

File or angle grinder.
Vise or some way to secure the blade.
Leather gloves.
Safety glasses.
Scraper or putty knife.
Blade balancer (available at most hardware stores).

Put on your leather gloves and safety glasses. Secure the blade in your bench vise. Sharpen the blade by drawing the file following the original angle toward the cutting edge of the blade the same number of times on each end of the blade. Remove the bur that has built up on the back side of the blade by drawing the file flat across the back of the blade.

File the blade following the original angle that the manufacture set If the cutting angle is worn completely away, file at a 45 degree angle.

Scrape any buildup or debris off the blade before checking the balance. Check the balance of the blade with a blade balancer. If one end is heavier file more metal off that end until both ends are the same weight. This will ensure minimal vibration of the blade when the mower is operating.
